Tesco has been voted Britain's favourite supermarket, according to a poll from VoucherCodesPro.

The website found that 29 per cent of Britons voted for Tesco, and 37 per cent of them said that a budget supermarket would have been their first choice previously.

All respondents were asked if they shop at a single supermarket or visit more than one per week, and the results indicated that 67 per cent frequented more than one supermarket, while just over a third (33 per cent) are loyal to a single supermarket.

Tesco was the most popular supermarket, closely followed by Aldi, Lidl, Asda and, in last place, Sainsbury's.

Nick Swan, CEO of VoucherCodesPro, commented:

“Tesco had a bad year in 2014, but they seem to have had a recovery of sorts in the early months of 2015. Aldi and Lidl really stole a lot of customers from Tesco, and other major supermarkets, in 2014 with their discounted prices, but it would seem that Tesco has stolen those customers straight back.”
