WHAT DO 40 DIGITAL MUMS AND 13 BRANDS HAVE IN COMMON?

They love talking and sharing new information. This was the case at the recent Talk to Mums blog brunch in London at Bloomsbury House on Friday, 24th April where an intimate and personal networking session was held to bring mums and brands together face to face.

This invaluable face time enables everyone to understand each other goals and work out a way in which they can work together to deliver better online content and communication.

Over 4 hours the program interspersed between live speakers and 1 to 1 conversations giving everyone a good mix of talk time and listening time. Each brand had 5 minutes to disseminated 1 or 2 key messages to mums and excite them to come over to their stands and engage in a longer dialogue.

The brands in the room all represented health or happiness, with a diverse mix of brands to give variety to the digital mums in the room. Many of the bloggers attending where their in an editorial capacity to find new information to share with their readers and to develop relationships with brands and products they love and want to talk about.

WHAT KEY INFORMATION DID THE BRANDS SHARE

Mornflakes an oat-based cereal company educated mums on the variety of oats available, its natural milling process and how oatbran is a natural superfood proven to lower blood cholesterol. The team baked some amazing muffins and showed some great recipe examples on how to use the product at breakfast and throughout the day.
Pom Wonderful a 100% juice drink told mums how their pomegranates comes from their own California orchards and the product is made from pure ingredient giving it an antioxidant profile. People sampled the new Pom and Apple drink range which got a big thumbs up.
Little Dish who provide healthy food for kids showed their passion for developing healthy and convenient dishes made with 100% natural ingredients. They sampled a variety of dishes that mums also enjoyed.
Upbeat the dairy protein drink informed us that the product is has half the sugar of fruit smoothies, it is high in protein that boost dopamine in the brain and regulates cravings and food intake. A great breakfast drink.
Antigua and Barbuda Tourism confirmed that beautiful beaches are only 7.5 hours away and that their is so much to do with the family you will not have time to do it all!  Anyone looking for year round warmth and sunshine will find Antigua to be a perfect destination. I know I can’t wait to go!
Cheeky Cow Cheese Company shared with us their passion for developing good quality tasting cheese that has 50% less fat and is gluten free. A great lunch box snack for the kids and an all round product for the family. Everyone took home a fabulous cheese goodie bag to share with the family.
Kiss Nails gave everyone a mini mani using their artificial gel glue nails whilst informing mums about how their range of cosmetics that enable people to bring the salon home.
Body Project showed people what it means to be serious about fitness and healthy eating by showing what a healthy meal & exercise plan looks like and how this has already benefited thousands of people who have gotten long term results. They created a Talk to Mums exercise group and gave everyone access to their step by step program for 10 weeks.
Return to Glory bought a pampering 5 minute neck and shoulder massage to all the mums and informed them that they are the largest mobile massage and beauty company in London that can be booked to come to your home, office or event.
East Coast Nursery showed off their range of sustainable baby nursery products. They also highlighted their family business credentials and passionate for ensuring mums have the right information to make decisions that are right for their little ones. Their magic fabric went down a storm.
Haliborange’s nutritionist highlighted the importance of Vitamins for kids to reduce the likelihood of childhood illness.
Ecover/Method highlighted how their products are all inspired by mother nature using all natural product to ensure a safe environment for all the family.
Richmond Osteopath told us how an osteopath can be a valuable person to know when you need to stay mobile and fix any alignments. They do both muscles and bone which makes them different to a physiotherapist. An invaluable support during pregnancy and fixing alignments like headaches, back aches, wrist strain and more.

TOP TIPS FROM AWARD WINNING BLOGGER SLUMMY SINGLE MUMMY ON HOW TO ADD MORE VALUE TO BRANDS

Jo Middleton from Slummy Single Mummy has won multiple awards and is voted by Cision as the No.3 most influential mummy blogger in the UK.  Jo shared some insightful information with the bloggers showing them practical tips on how to give more value to brands to have a win win for all.

Jo’s top tip takeaways
  • Don’t expect payment for a freebie/sample – the product is worth good money, enjoy it and write about it
  • Prepare thought out plans for brands on how you can help them and what you can write long term
  • Understand their is a difference between advertorial and editorial if you want to be taken seriously enough to be paid now and in the future
  • Create a media pack with all the relevant information to help brands make an informed decision about working with you and the value you add.
  • Provide statistical data on your campaign activity to enable brands to understand the real value you provide
The brands in the room agreed with Jo’s comments and Jean Marc from Antigua and Barbuda Tourism said he views bloggers as “interruptors” not journalists. They play a very important role in being able to interpret the brand information and get it across to blog readers in a way they will respond.
Other brands like Pom Wonderful and Little Dish all agreed that these tips make their job easier to sell into management for budget sign off.

  • Give one (1) core call to action that you want bloggers to do, no more. It needs to be easy and straight to the point
  • Provide practical information that enables the blogger to see how to use your information within the blog.
  • Know what you are pitching to bloggers, it is not a company wide presentation. It needs to be 1-2 key nuggets of information that provokes further questions and dialogue.

The event hashtag #t2mblogbrunch has received 207, 368 impressions reaching 89,527 accounts. 93% of bloggers said they will write a blog post about the whole event and or 1 or 2 key brands.

  • Understand where bloggers fit into your overall social strategy and develop a clear plan that reflects this that your social team can then follow
  • Decide if you need a select few bloggers consistently writing about your or if you need a more diverse range of bloggers on a campaign by campaign basis
  • If you are only working with a few bloggers understand how influential they are to your audience. Do they have superfans or readers?
  • Work out your storyline and give single minded messages each time to increase readers followers. Follow the K.I.S.S principal (Keep it Simple Stupid)
  • Good digital communication is about providing interesting content. Interesting content is about variety and relevance. And above all great results happen from doing the small things consistently.
